Welcome to the Waste Revolution India Portal

What are these new Waste Technologies?

They are waste treatment processes, which are:-

  • Mostly new to India
  • Often new to the municipal waste sector
  • Near market technologies ready for sale, or very nearly so
  • Not necessarily new, and are hopefully already provenť (usually in their place of origin).

Examples of the key new technologies for India are:-

  • Composting with additional technology to improve quality
  • Aerobic and Anaerobic Biological Treatment
  • Mechanical Biological Treatment / Pre-treatment
  • Other Refuse Derived Fuel or material preparation systems such as Pyrolysis / Gasification / other Advanced Thermal Treatment such as Autoclaving

Why is the Indian nation, at this time to introduce these Technologies?

The driving factors we have identified for India, are:-

  • Indian State Government Waste 2000 rule compliance
  • The wish to Waste Not Want Not and minimise, reuse, and recycle wastes as much as possible
  • To close bad neighbour landfills throughout India
  • Not Incineration (although this will be included in this web site)

These technologies will struggle to be developed unless designers and construction contractors are chosen with with proven operational experience.

There are perception, planning, contractual, regulatory, financial and operational risks to all those owning, building, and operating these forms of process plant. Nevertheless, there are huge gains made for the environment, by using these new waste processing technologies, and the Indian public wants it’s waste problems resolved WITHOUT new landfills, and to see all the old landfills closed as far as this can be achieved.

This web site aims to address some of these barriers.

Steve Last
Web Master

We first uploaded this site in April 2006, and we are still very much developing it.

We are an independent web site, and we hope that we are impartial in our judgements about these technologies. We call ourselves the Waste Technology Associates.

We are United Kingdom based and we call this the “Indian Waste Revolution Portal”.

OK. You might think its a little over the top to talk of a waste revolution, but we want you to remember us, and return again as we develop this site! So why not have a snappy title!

Why do we call it a Waste Revolution?

Well, it is all about a total revolution in the way we think of, and process,  “waste resource” in India. Incidentally, we also think that the move away from landfill will also be a radical change for very many other countries which have also relied heavily on landfilling, as public pressure to recycle, moves nations away from over-dependence on landfills.

We have started this web site by packing it full of links, and interactive capabilities. Over time we hope to make or largely text based format more graphically interesting.

Join in provide us with your links, add comments, and advertise on this site.

We are completely independent, and we wish to provide you with the broadest possible selection of waste technology information, links, and resources.

For a description of the way that UK Waste Management is responding to the twin challenges of EU environmental Directives, and public pressure to recycle more and landfill far less.
